Nature Classes

Let's Play at the Ranch
Ages 3-4 and Caregiver

Let’s Play at the Ranch

CLASS TUITION: $282 for 8 weeks     
GRADES: Preschool & PreK (ages 3-4), with accompanying adult caregiver
CLASS SIZE: max 8
CLASS DURATION: 1 Hour 30 Minutes

Children and their caregivers will love this opportunity for a weekly visit to Sienna Ranch together. Each week will offer new wonders as you experience the ranch and her residents with the change of the seasons. Gardening, harvesting, crafting, and animal interactions will make up our weekly routine.

Students in the program are:

  • Able to listen to instruction from teacher or caretaker
  • Able to stay with the group
  • Gentle with our animal friends
  • Excited to be outside in all weather conditions and get a bit dirty.

 Note: This class is designed for one student and one caretaker per registration. An infant sibling that is able to be happily worn by the parent/guardian for the full 75 minutes may attend Let’s Play at the Ranch at no extra charge. Unfortunately, other siblings, extra adults or visitors cannot attend. 

Jr Ranchers
Prek-1st Grade

Junior Ranchers Half Day

CLASS TUITION: $463 for 8 weeks 
GRADES: PreK-1st (PreK= at least 4 years old as of August 24th, 2020)
CLASS SIZE: max 8 
CLASS DURATION: 3 Hours 15 Minutes

A unique program designed for this special age when everything is exciting and magical. Junior Ranchers will love getting to know the ranch animals, discovering our garden and making nature themed crafts. There will be ample time to enjoy unstructured nature play, exploration, and observation as well. In addition, each session will feature an opportunity to groom the pony, try out archery, and make a wood craft in our carpentry workshop.

Students in this program are:

  • Able to use the restroom independently
  • Able to listen to verbal directions in an outdoor environment
  • Able to stay with the teacher
  • Emotionally ready to spend 3 ½ hours away from parents/caregivers
  • Ready to be outside in all weather conditions and get dirty

Junior Ranchers Full Day

CLASS TUITION: $888 for 8 weeks 
GRADES: PreK-1st (PreK= at least 4 years old as of August 24th, 2020)

The Junior Ranchers full day gives us more time to enjoy all the things we love about Sienna Ranch! A unique program designed for this special age when everything is exciting and magical. Junior Ranchers will love getting to know the ranch animals, discovering our garden and making nature themed crafts. The day will be paced so that our young participants will have time to rest and recharge between activities, while still feeling engaged throughout the day. Explorers

The Sienna Ranch Explorers program develops a deep connection to the natural world by offering fun, exciting and diverse outdoor experiences. Our core activities include hiking, wilderness skills, animal interaction, wild tending, homesteading skills, cooking,nature based crafts, and seasonal gardening. Ample time is given to exploration, observation, unstructured nature play, and games as well. 

Each session we offer the opportunity to earn a Sienna Ranch Certification Badge. Certification Badges are a fun and non-competitive way to focus our explorations, and to delve deeper into topics such as first aid, oak tree care, shelter building and much more. Certification topics rotate on a three year cycle. You may join at any part of the cycle — classes start every 8 weeks during the school year.

Students in the program are:

Pottery & Ponies
PreK-2nd Grade

Pottery & Ponies

Class Tuition: $500/8-week session 
GRADES (as of September 2020): PreK-2nd Grade Tuesday PM
CLASS SIZE: 8 max 
CLASS DURATION: 3 hrs 15 minutes Tuesday PM

Two fun activities in one session! The 8 week session will be divided into 4 weeks of Pottery time and 4 weeks of Horse time. In addition to weekly focused activities, students will enjoy other fun aspects of the ranch such as exploring in nature, hiking to favorite destinations, playing games, and visiting our animals. 

In Pottery (4 weeks) we will learn basic hand building techniques while drawing inspiration from the natural landscape and ranch life surrounding us. We will touch upon elements of design, texture, balance, and fundamentals of construction and glaze application. 

Our Horse Class (4 weeks) is an introduction to all things equestrian for young horse enthusiasts.  Through a rich variety of unmounted activities students will learn about horse care, horse behavior,  and the special bonds that can be formed with them. We will also enjoy horse-related games and art projects and learn how to become comfortable, confident, and safe around horses. Each class will include mounted riding time with instruction for each student. Classes will be held rain or shine.

Students in this program are:

  • Able to follow directions in an outdoor environment
  • Able to accept when projects don’t turn out exactly as imagined or mistakes are made
  • Open to new experiences
  • Able to manage any hay or animal hair allergies
  • Able to closely follow safety rules and act calmly around horses

Riding Cancellation Note:

We understand that the riding component of our programs is very important to our students and will always do our best to ride as planned. We do reserve the right to cancel the riding component of our lessons without notice for the safety of our students and/or horses. We will always use our non-riding time to learn valuable lessons about horse care, anatomy, tack, vaulting or ground skills to create well-rounded, holistic horse people. We are unable to offer make-up riding time for any group classes or camps.  

Wilderness Wander & Garden Cooking
PreK-2nd Grade

Wilderness Wander & Garden Cooking

Class Tuition: $481/8-week session 
GRADES (as of September 2020): PreK-2nd Grade
CLASS SIZE: 10 max
CLASS DURATION: 3 hrs 15 minutes either Tuesday PM or Thursday AM

Two fun activities in one session! The 8 week session will be divided into 4 weeks of Wilderness Wander time and 4 weeks of Garden Cooking. In addition to weekly focused activities, students will enjoy other fun aspects of the ranch such as hiking to favorite destinations, playing games, and visiting our animals. 

Our Wilderness Wander class (4 weeks) will get us out on the hills and trails of Sienna Ranch observing, playing and exploring the natural world!  We will go out in all weather conditions and enjoy nature based games and activities as well as free exploration time.

In Garden Cooking (4 weeks) we will learn to care for our garden and enjoy the harvest!  We will make  delicious  seasonal recipes incorporating freshly harvested ingredients and learn basic cooking skills and techniques. Through hands-on garden work we will learn how to do seasonal garden care including seeding, transplanting, harvesting, and building healthy soil. 

Please note: recipes may include gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts. Please discuss any food allergies in advance. 

Students in this program are:

  • Able to follow verbal directions in an outdoor environment

  • Up for hiking minimum 1 mile with a full backpack

Woodshop & Ponies

Two fun activities in one session! The 8 week session will be divided into 4 weeks of Woodshop time and 4 weeks of Horse time. In addition to weekly focused activities, students will enjoy other fun aspects of the ranch such as exploring in nature, hiking to favorite destinations, playing games, and visiting our animals. 

Woodshop students (4 weeks)  will use fine motor skills to create take-home projects as they learn foundational carpentry skills and safe tool use with saws, hammers, and hand drills. No prior experience is necessary, and most projects can be scaled up for more experienced builders.

Our Horse Class (4 weeks) is an introduction to all things equestrian for young horse enthusiasts.  Through a rich variety of unmounted activities students will learn about horse care, horse behavior,  and the special bonds that can be formed with them. We will also enjoy horse-related games and art projects and learn how to become comfortable, confident, and safe around horses. Each class will include mounted riding time with instruction for each student. Classes will be held rain or shine.

Students in this program are:

  • Able to follow verbal directions in an outdoor environment as well as in a distracting and noisy woodshop setting 
  • Able to accept when projects don’t turn out exactly as imagined or mistakes are made
  • Aware of their surroundings when using sharp tools
  • Open to new experiences
  • Able to manage any hay or animal hair allergies
  • Able to closely follow safety rules and act calmly around horses

This class is appropriate for beginners and returning archers. With a fully covered shooting line, classes will be held rain or shine!

Students in this program are:

  • Able to follow verbal directions in an outdoor environment with distractions
  • Open to new experiences
  • Able to manage any hay or animal hair allergies
  • Able to focus on shooting archery for periods of 45 minutes at a time
  • Able to closely follow safety rules and act calmly around horses and on the archery range

NOTE ON AIDES: Sienna Ranch asks that if your student has a 1:1 behavioral aide that they attend together (extra support in this outdoor classroom sets students up for success!). We do not allow parent/guardians as aides.

NOTE ON AIDES: Sienna Ranch asks that if your student has a 1:1 behavioral aide that they attend together (extra support in this outdoor classroom sets students up for success!) We do not allow parent/guardians as aides.
