Summer Camp 2024 Nature Program Instructor

The Sienna Ranch Summer Camp Counselors are responsible for creatively adapting and delivering dynamic nature-based curriculum to small groups of youth age pre-K to teen. Camp sessions include themes such as farm/ranch animal interactions, survival skills, nature-based art and wild crafts, animal tracking, and hiking adventures. Additional activities include archery, pottery, woodshop, gardening, animal care, and wilderness skills. Counselors and campers will be fully immersed in “ranch life” including caring for our farm animals (goats, sheep, horses, ducks, chickens), learning about edible wild plants, and cooking from our garden.

Instructors will cultivate a sense of curiosity and discovery of the natural world through inquiry-based teaching, hands-on lessons, animal interactions, and nature exploration. Instructors model enthusiasm for all aspects of nature and weather conditions and consistently incorporate themes of stewardship, gratitude, and wonder.

SCHEDULE SUMMARY

Non-exempt/hourly. Seasonal. Full-time (30-35 hours/week).

Summer Dates:

  • Duration of employment May 24-August 16th, 2024
  • Mandatory Training May 24, 27-31
  • Week long M-F day camps begin June 3rd. 11 weeks in total. Nature Instructors are required to work 10 out of the 11 weeks.

Summer Camp 2024 Horse Camp Instructor

The Sienna Ranch Summer Horse Camp is a dynamic program that establishes development of young riders through a balanced approach of equine education, horse care, and riding. Week-long horse camps are designed for entry level students who love horses and want to build their skills and confidence. The Riding Instructor and Horse Camp Counselors work as part of a collaborative, supportive and professional team to offer riding lessons, horsemanship skills such as grooming, tacking, and mucking, as well as horse-theme arts and crafts. Additional curriculum focuses on horse history, anatomy, and natural horsemanship. In addition this role will assist our Animal Care Manager with care for our horses. This is a non riding position.

Instructors are responsible for creatively adapting and delivering dynamic nature-based curriculum to small groups of 2nd grade – 5th grade aged youth. Additional activities may include hiking, games, archery, pottery, woodshop, gardening, animal care, and wilderness skills. Rapport-building between students and instructors is a key aspect of this position. Instructors will cultivate a sense of curiosity and discovery of the equine world through inquiry-based teaching, hands-on lessons, animal interactions, and exploration. Instructors will model enthusiasm for all aspects of nature and weather conditions and consistently incorporate themes of stewardship, gratitude, and wonder. Horse instructors work as part of a dynamic and collaborative team as well as teach classes independently. This position reports to the Animal Care Manager and Operations Director.

2024-Part Time Animal Assistant

The Animal Care Assistant is an integral part of our animal care team. Animal Care Assistants are responsible for maintaining the safety and care of our animals including horses, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, and cats. This position works independently with minimal supervision while also being a part of a dynamic team that regularly interacts with students and teachers. Applicants must be able to take direction, possess critical thinking skills, and exhibit good communication. Animal Care Assistants report to the Sienna Ranch Animal Care Manager and Operations Director.

SCHEDULE SUMMARY

  • Non-exempt. Part-Time. Year-round or Summer seasonal positions available.
  • School Year: Average 3-12 hours weekly (1-4 days), must include 1 weekend shift
  • Summer (June 3rd-August 16th): average 12-20 hours per week, one weekend shifts required

Volunteer Feeder Opportunities


Thank you for your interest in becoming a Volunteer Animal Feeder at Sienna Ranch! The animals at Sienna Ranch are valued members of our community, serving as educational ambassadors for our visiting youth. Feeding the animals is an important responsibility that directly impacts the animals’ health and well-being. We appreciate you taking the time to submit an application for this important role!

Requirements:

  • The Sienna Ranch Volunteer Animal Feeder position requires a 6-month seasonal commitment (FALL/WINTER: September-February; SPRING/SUMMER: March-August) with the possibility to extend.
  • All Sienna Ranch Volunteer Animal Feeders must be over the age of 18 years.
  • Volunteer Animal Feeders have the ability to bring two (2) additional feeders with them. Additional Volunteer Animal Feeders must be at least 10 years old and be accompanied at all times while on Sienna Ranch property. Additional Volunteer Feeder information must be submitted with this form. This is a great way to experience the ranch with a spouse, child or relative!
  • Volunteer Animal Feeders must feed the animals within the window of time of their assigned shift. AM Shifts are 7:00-9:00am and PM Shifts are 4:30-6:30pm.
  • Volunteer Animal Feeders are expected to feed the animals for their assigned shift, including during inclement weather and holidays.
  • Volunteer Animal Feeders who are unable to feed during their assigned shift must find a substitute from the approved list. A substitute must be acquired as soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours prior to the absence. All substitutions must be communicated to the Animal Care Manager.
  • Two (2) unexcused absences will result in removal from the program.
