Children will be cared for, inspired, and enriched by our serene, natural setting and outstanding staff. Choose your days! Come one time per week or all week long! Afterschool Enrichment Class Descriptions
Project Woodworking:
Tuesday or Thursday
Sienna Ranch’s after school carpentry progam. In this class, students will design and build fabulous wooden projects, learn construction techniques and safe tool use, engage in fascinating explorations of physics and engineering concepts, and develop practical problem-solving techniques. The class will introduce the fundamentals of woodworking and tool use, and then allow the students to develop their own project ideas. Any level of carpentry experience is welcome. Students will work at their own pace with as little or as much guidance and direction that suits their learning style. At least one class per session will be spent working at the students’ favorite spot- the ever-growing Tree Fort overlooking the hills of Sienna Ranch. Ages 6-12
Nature Explorers: Monday or Tuesday
The foundation for the content of the Sienna Ranch Explorers program is wilderness skills. Skills and knowledge are acquired in the categories of survival, nature awareness, local ecology, animal tracking, primitive skills and crafts, communication and leadership. Challenges faced in Explorers classs teach self-reliance, boost self-esteem, and give children a comfort which will encourage them to seek out new experiences in nature. Likewise, learning the art of primitive crafts and skills will nurture an appreciation for the earth and her gifts. In Sienna Ranch Explorers classes, we are planting seeds- not only in the garden, but also in the inspirations of the students. Ages 5-12
Ranch Chefs: Tuesday or Thursday New!
Learning how to cook can be easy and fun when it happens at Sienna Ranch! In this after school enrichment class, students will spend their afternoon learning how to make some delicious favorites like pizza and chocolate chip cookies. When appropriate, food preparation will include harvesting fresh herbs and veggies from our garden. We might collect eggs from our chickens or milk from our goat to use in our creations as well! Each week, we will learn a new recipe, including appetizers, side dishes, entrees and desserts. Bring copies of your recipes home to show off what you have learned. Best of all, we will eat what we make! Ages 7-12
Archery-
Wednesday or Friday
Our classes begin by teaching a neutral style of archery which introduces students to a solid shooting form for recurve or compound bows, developed by the nation's top archers. Students progress through a series of different targets, beginning with a 60 cm scoring target specifically designed for our program. Sienna Ranch Archery classes are taught by trained and certified instructors. Thus, they have the necessary skills to ensure the students learn the sport of archery and have fun while maintaining the highest standards of safety. Ages 8 and up
Art and Animals:

Two favorite hobbies comined in one fantastic class! Art and Animals was created to offer a unique nature-based art experience to kids and an opportunity to learn from and interact with the various animals who live at Sienna Ranch. Classes will begin with visits to the animals where they will care for, observe, interact with, and learn about the bunnies, chickens, goats,sheep, ducks, and pony! After their animal visits, students will settle in for one of Sienna Ranch’s unique art classes. Projects and themes for the art lessons vary by session, but all projects are integrated with a relevant environmental, scientific, or historical lesson. Additionally, instructors encourage and model the use of natural and recycled materials. Ages 5-12
Fun With Horses:

How do you teach a horse to do tricks? What “spooks” a horse, and how do you train
them not to be scared? What are the signs of a healthy horse on their teeth, hooves, and gums? How can you tell what a horse is thinking and feeling? In this afterschool class, we will learn the answers to these questions and more. This class is designed to expose students to interesting and fun horse-related topics which aren’t introduced in most riding programs. Students will learn from the horse “teachers” at the ranch and enjoy interacting with the horses in a new and fun way. Fun With Horses allows for lots of horse grooming time(a favorite activity) and instruction in special braiding methods for the mane and tail. In each session of Fun With Horses, students will enjoy an opportunity to ride the horses they have grown to know and love while their friends show off their horse-handling skills in a horse “obstacle course” designed and built by the students.
