Horseback
Riding and Groundwork are the main activities in this animal-based
camp. Campers will enjoy two semi-private riding lessons daily and
groundwork activities. On Monday, campers will receive a private riding
lesson and assessment in order to ensure they are placed at the
appropriate riding level. Each day, they will work on new skills
appropriate to their level. Groundwork lessons will include instruction
in roundpenning, leading the horse, safety knots, and working with the
horse on and off the lunge line. When they are not working directly with
the horses, campers will enjoy learning lessons in horse equipment,
anatomy, breeds, equipment, and horse care. Equestrian campers will
also be introduced to vaulting- a fun way to build confidence and
balance on the back of the horse.
Safety is a top priority in Ranch Equestrian Camp. Our rider to instructor ratio is 1:1. For this reason, our camper groups are kept small, a maximum of 8 campers per week. Our instructors model and teach natural horsemanship techniques in their interactions with the horses, nurturing positive interactions between horse and rider.
EarthKeepers: Ecology and Sustainability
Cost: $315, Ages 8-12, Maximum group size: 10
Sienna Ranch’s unique nature-based environmental camp for middle school students has two key components: environmental awareness and earth stewardship.
We invite ecologically-minded youth, ages 10-14, to join the Sienna Ranch naturalists and educators in a journey to explore a wide range of environmental issues. Through challenges and hands-on investigation, campers become aware of the interconnectedness of the natural world and the complexity of many environmental problems. They discover that science and society are inextricably linked, and that most solutions require compromise.
After gaining an understanding of various issues facing us, students will venture outdoors to “Eco-Ranch”, the ecological classroom at Sienna Ranch, where they will learn first-hand what environmental issues we face locally and what they, as stewards of the earth, can do to help. EarthKeepers will meet and interact with the animal residents at the ranch in order to foster respect and appreciation for the animal world which shares with us the land. Drawing from our well-developed survival skills and nature immersion curriculum, instructors will develop in EarthKeepers campers an appreciation for what the land and the earth provide for us and a motivation to care for and protect the natural world.
