Explorers- Winter Session

Sky teaches "match-free" primitive fire making!

Explorers will keep warm in winter as we practice the ancient art of fire building inside Sienna Ranch's new 400 sq. ft. authentic tipi! The tipi will serve as a gathering place, a center of warmth and relief from the rain, and an indoor/outdoor classroom where a variety of new projects are possilbe- cooking, natural teas, utensil making, and much more.

Winter is time for closeness and bonding as we huddle together through the winter months.

We will learn to identify, harvest, and appreciate the native edible plants which only thrive with the wetness of winter. Storytelling will become a favorite pasttime as we learn the ways of those who came before us.

Animal tracking will be enhanced by the moist ground we will come to appreciate, and primitive tool making will highlight the activities of the Explorer in Winter.

When the weather forces us inside, we will build our naturalist knowledge with nature journaling and art made from natural dyes, paints, and materials. Towards the end of winter, we will begin to look forward to the birth of Spring.

The Kindergarten Enrichment classes are specifically tailored to meet the needs of the youngest Quails! Your kids will love spending one morning or afternoon each week hiking the hills of Sienna Ranch, interacting with our animals, and crafting from natural materials.
