Sienna Ranch - Dear Neighbor

Dear Neighbors,

On the 16th of August, the City Planning Commission unanimously approved our request for a Land Use Permit Amendment allowing us to continue providing all the programs here at Sienna Ranch. This was made possible by your support. The city received over 45 letters and emails from you voicing your strong support for the continuation of the Ranch and no opposition whatsoever. It would be challenging to capture all the wonderful and personal statements conveyed by many in a single sentence, but perhaps the words of one of the Planning Commissioner does the job when he said “….As a community, we have been debating for years on what the definition of Lafayette’s core value of ‘Semi-Rural’ is, I think that Sienna Ranch well exemplifies and defines it for all of us….finally!”

 PREVIOUSLY POSTED

Dear Neighbor –

We are respectfully requesting your support for Sienna Ranch’s Land Use Permit application which will allow us to continue to provide great outdoor experiences for our community.

Also – it is very important that as many people from the community show up on the evening of August 16th (new date) at 7PM at the Lafayette Library for the Planning Commission Hearing where our Land Use Permit Application will be heard and decided upon.

Your letter and emails should be sent to:

As a brief background – my family purchased the former “Deer Hill Ranch” located on 3232 Deer Hill Road two years ago and subsequently “re-branded” it Sienna Ranch. We are long time residents of Lafayette and love our town and plan to raise our children here for as long as we can. My family purchased the property because we felt very strongly that our own and our community’s children should have access to enriching, safe, educational and wholesome outdoor environment where they can experience the full range of the Great Outdoors yet be 5 minutes from home. We are very pleased to report that our expectations have been exceeded. First, we successfully transitioned from Deer Hill Ranch to Sienna Ranch and in doing so have increased and deepened the type and range pf program offerings for the kids such as equestrian programs, archery, farm animal interaction and organic gardening just to name a few. Second, we have formal and informal programs with many local elementary schools, scout troops, mom’s clubs, day cares etc…and last but not least, we are very happy to see so many young Lafayette teens who are volunteering with Summer Camps and generally getting into the whole ranch operations.

One of our concerted efforts has been to keep program prices low and quality high. You can refer to this link article by Lamorninda Weekly to get a taste of what we mean – our teachers are the best in the naturalist community. They are all educated, mature adults with a passion for teaching and the outdoors.

If you value having Sienna Ranch in our “backyard” and want to see it continue, please voice your support by expressing your support. For our family, this is not a money making venture, rather something we consider as “work worth doing.” The reward, as it were, is in seeing our own and our community’s children thrive in a healthy, wholesome environment. It is our goal to keep running the ranch form many years to come.

The purpose of the Land Use Permit is to allow what we currently do – without it, we have to stop all operations. So your support is critical, and it makes a huge difference. So please, do not delay and write in your letters and emails of support.

We thank you in advance and look forward to seeing some of you on August 2nd!

Sincerely,

Mike Kim
