10 classes total. Students should bring their own brushes and canvases.
This workshop/studio style class will be set up to help the individual students needs. Just as there are numerous art schools serving different disciplines and philosophies, the students needs will be different depending on the kind of artist the student wishes to be.

On the first day of class, the students will bring in their work that they would like to put into the portfolio, then through the class, we will work on developing content, and set goals to shoot for. The kids will work on personal projects in class, and develop a strategy for putting together a great art portfolio , and this class will work also as a supplement to the Drawing and Painting class where the students will get studio time to work on their projects. Glenn will supervise and guide the student and help set personal goals.

Drawing and Painting for teens
Ages 13 to 19,  $300

TuesdaysSaturdays, 10am - 12pm
March 13 - May 22, no class April 10.
10 classes total.

This class is designed to introduce to kids from ages 13 and up, basic drawing, compositions, and painting principals that will be applicable to . They will learn valuable skills that will teach them how to effectively put together a great composition, and learn basic painting techniques using water based paints and acrylics. The kids will also learn how to use photo references, how to take digital photos, to understand light as it pertains to drawing and painting, and finally, how best to do a finished painting. The skills and techniques taught in Glenn’s class is a universal process that most professional artists use to effectively do a finished painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, or any other process that is visual arts related.

Glenn will share stories and bring in guest speakers to also help highlight different professional artists working in the field.

This class is open to students who are thinking of pursuing a path of an artist, but is still not sure what that means. Or some students who know exactly what they want, but need a little help polishing their portfolio for an art college.

Why Glenn Kim created this program
"I believe early experiences that spark a child’s imagination can influence their lives forever.

I want to teach kids what I might have wanted when I was a kid, and also as a teen, when I seriously started considering what I wanted to do with my life, and I knew it was ‘art something’, but had no idea as to even what kind of artist I wanted to be. Other than early memories of my parents showing me a few things(that stayed with me), I didn’t have anyone in my life who had a profound affect from an artistic or an art career point of view.

A successful illustrator friend of mine told me once that his early influence was a famous artist that lived on his street, and that when he was a kid, he use to go over to this old mans house, and just watch him paint. He believes that moment in his life had the affect on him to pursue a career as a painter. My friend went on to become a painter for Star Wars films, Star Trek, and Indiana Jones films. Now he also teaches and still enjoys a successful career as an illustrator and a fine artist."

About Glenn Kim in his own words

I grew up drawing ever since I could remember. One of the earliest memories is I remember my dad teaching me one point perspective when I was about 5 or 6 years old. Ever since then, I drew all the time. I was also inspired by my mom who used to make Asian style silk screens with scenes of cranes and pine trees. But like a typical boy, I grew up drawing lots of robots, tanks, battles, great hideaways in the mountain, warriors in battle armor, etc. I still do.

Even through high school, I was drawing. I stayed home on Friday nights when most kids were going out, watching scary movies, and drawing.

My passion for art led me to getting an illustration degree from the Academy of Art in San Francisco. While I was slowly building up a freelance career, I got a call from one of my teachers from Academy of Art who recommended me to interview at Pixar. I got a job at Pixar Animation Studios in 1996, and got to work on Movies Such as A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Incredibles, Cars, WAL-e, the up coming Toy Story 3, and even worked on some fun shorts like Presto and Cars Toons.

My goal now is to pass on some of the stuff that I learned to the next generation of aspiring artists. And hopefully, maybe, help them see what the possibilities are out there.
