Archery Classes and Camps

Our classes begin by teaching a neutral style of archery which introduces students to a solid shooting form for recurve or compound bows, developed by the nation's top archers. Students progress through a series of different targets, beginning with a scoring target specifically designed for our program. Next, students are introduced to the basics of 3-D field archery using a paper target face. Finally, students will learn the fundamentals of target archery when they shoot at a target similar to that used by USA Archery Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD). Sienna Ranch Archery classes are taught by trained and certified instructors, including members of the UC Berkeley Archery Team. Thus, they have the necessary skills to ensure the students learn the sport of archery and have fun while maintaining the highest standards of safety.

BASIC 1: Ages 8+

This 8 week archery course is for beginners who have had little to no exposure to the sport of archery. Each week, a new skill will be introduced, demonstrated, and practiced by the student. Past skills will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Each class will end with a game or competition, as the goal at Sienna Ranch Archery is above all to have fun!

BASIC 2 (prerequisite: BASIC 1): Ages 8+

Also held as an 8 week session, BASIC 2 builds upon the skills developed in BASIC 1.

Both BASIC 1 and BASIC 2 provide opportunities for archers to earn badges and pins as they advance, master skills, and accomplish specific goals. All equipment is provided for Basic 1 and Basic 2 classes; however, students are welcome to bring their own. Maximum class size is 12 students.

Junior Olympic Archery (Ages 8-18)

For students who have completed Sienna Ranch's Basic 1 and Basic 2 classes and are ready to move to the next level of archery training.  Our experienced instructors will guide archers through the well-known and establised archery program developed and administered by USA Archery.  Archers receive up to 2 full hours of practice time.

It is ideal that archers desiring to participate in JOAD consider purchasing their own equipment.  Sienna Ranch equipment rental is $7.50/day which includes bow, safety equipment, and arrows.

With JOAD, archers have an opportunity to compete in local, state, and national tournaments. Additionally, JOAD can be continued into the college years.

JOAD is open to any youth archer aged 8 to 18. Both recurve and compund bows are used in club activities and in tournaments. JOAD archers who use a compound bow can train to compete in local and regional tournaments, and can earn a seat on a youth world team to compete in other countries representing the United States on behalf of USA Archery.

Recurve archers can compete likewise, with the added benefit of being able to use their recurve bow to try out for a spot on the US Olympic Archery team which is selected and managed by USA Archery. http://www.usaarcheryjoad.org/

Sienna Ranch (green lawn at back of the ranch)

3232 Deer Hill Road

Lafayette, CA  94549

Sienna Ranch houses a recreational range suitable for beginners and casual archers. We have a 10 target range with targets up to 70 meters. We have a covered shooting lane to allow classes to continue year round- rain or shine.

The archery staff at Sienna Ranch has plans for a walking range in order to provide students with the experience of field archery. Restroom facilities are available a short walk from the range. For parents who wish to stay and watch their child’s class or need to accompany them during club hours, we have a waiting area for observers. We ask that observers stay outside the shooting area and keep younger children at a safe distance from the range. (All areas are marked for safety) Sienna Ranch has ample parking and the parking lot is a a short distance from the range.
